Five trails through old oak and chestnut forest

Marked routes through the Riserva Naturale Monte Penna, across the mountains that ring Castell’Azzara. Wild boar (cinghiale), roe deer and porcupine are common; above the treeline, the rare Lanner falcon circles the cliffs at Roccaccia.

A broad woodland track deep in fallen leaves, running between beech and hornbeam in full autumn colour, with rustic post-and-rail fencing on both sides

The whole network

The reserve covers the hills immediately above the village: the old oak and chestnut forest the trails run through. The map shows the wider network, not only the five routes above: numbered and unnumbered trails in red, light roads and gravel tracks in brown, and ten water points.
