There is no train and barely a bus. Here is how everyone actually manages.

Getting to ASHA
ASHA is at Loc. Le Piane, 58034 Castell’Azzara, about 1.5 km below the village. There is no station in Castell’Azzara: the nearest is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, just under an hour away by road, and Orvieto is a little further.
Book your ride before you travel

The last stretch
The village is 25–30 minutes’ walk up the hill from ASHA, and 15–20 minutes back down. For arrival times and the road down to Le Piane, check with ASHA before you set off.
Airports
From any of these, take a train to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme or Orvieto. Perugia is the nearest, but it has few flights. Most people fly into Rome or Florence. Times shown are by car to the village, without traffic.

Driving
From Florence and the north, take the A1 south and leave at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme. From Rome, take the A1 north and leave at Fabro, or follow your satnav, which often prefers the A12 up the coast and then the roads inland. The last half hour is on winding mountain roads, so allow more time than the map suggests, and come in daylight the first time.

Bus
There is a service from Castell’Azzara to Santa Fiora via Selvena. We do not have the timetable written down yet. If you know it, tell us.
Cycling
Several members get around by bicycle. Go electric: this is a mountainous area. Electric bikes can be rented at Il Cornacchino, bought second-hand through Facebook Marketplace or Subito, or new at the bicycle shop in Abbadia San Salvatore.

Do I need a car once I am there?
It helps. There is very little public transport. The village is a 25–30 minute walk up from ASHA; for anything further, hire a car, arrange a lift or rent an electric bike.
